Corvin Castle

One thing is for sure: Romania is a beautiful country that is worth visiting at least once in your life! The landscapes are so diverse that you will never get tired of the mountains that seem to touch the air, the sea that attracts tourists every summer, but also many other tourist attractions. Romania is a country full of history, so everywhere you go you will find places full of story – churches, monasteries, monuments, but also castles. Surely you have heard of the unique castles of Romania, especially since the most beautiful of them have appeared in famous movies. Peles Castle, Bran, but also that of the Corvin are famous all over the world.

I will tell you more about one of those constructions – Corvin Castle is the one put in the spotlight. Are you ready to find out more about this imposing castle?

Why should you visit Corvin Castle?

The whole world is full of beautiful castles that will take your breath away. Romania is no exception to this, so it is worth visiting this country even to see its imposing castles. Many of those who participate in online Romanian language courses were impressed by the monumental constructions visited in this land. Corvin Castle is one of the most visited places in Romania. You will also meet it under the name of Huniazilor or Hunedoara Castle, and it is a representative building both for the medieval period and for the Gothic architecture. For those visiting it for the first time, I warn you! You will be speechless when you are in its neighborhood. As you approach the building, you will realize how small you are in front of the monumental castle. Its specific colors, unique architecture and sublime landscapes will impress you. You will feel like stepping into another world, travelling time; all that is missing are the knights, the princesses, and the famous battles to win their hearts.

Before stepping into Hunedoara and visiting its famous castle, you need to know something about its history. John Hunyadi, one of the great voivodes of Transylvania, was the one who built the fortress to serve as his residence, but it is also strategically located from a military point of view. As time went on, the other leaders also left their mark on the building, each adding towers, important halls, and imposing bridges. Therefore, what we see today is the result of many years of hard work, but the weather was gentle and kept the building alive to give us the vague feeling that we know our history. One of the most famous legends related to this place is that of the 30-meter-deep fountain. Located right in the castle courtyard, next to the chapel, the fountain it will be impossible to miss. This well was dug by several prisoners of Turkish origin who were promised freedom in exchange for finding water. Only after 15 years of hard work the well was finished, but the owners did not stay the same and the promise was not kept. That is why, on the wall of the fountain, you can see an inscription that sounds something like this: You have water, but you have no heart. Captivating, isn’t it?

Let’s just say that this Castle is in the top of the scariest places in the world. There is only one way you can convince yourself: visit it! 😊 You will feel chills on your skin when you walk through the Knights’ Hall, but also when you see the dark dungeons.

How do you get here?

How do you get to such a place of storytelling? You don’t need incantations or invitations glued with seals. Once you arrive in Bucharest, the capital of Romania, it will be easy for you to move from one captivating place to another. You can take the train which is a very cheap option, and it will be a real adventure. Both the bus and the car are also a pretty good choice. The minimum time is almost 6 hours, so if you arrive in Hunedoara, my advice is to stay here a couple of days to enjoy a relaxing vacation. In addition, this area is of great tourist importance. You can discover the origin of the Romanians by visiting Sarmisegetusa, and the castles seem to gather in this area, so visit the Deva Fortress and the Magna Curia Palace. And for the adventurous ones, the mountain area can be a real challenge! Look for those tourist routes you can choose for hiking. You will actively spend your vacation and enjoy sublime landscapes!
