If we still haven’t convinced you through our articles to visit Romania, this post aims to make you feel like going away! We present to you some unique things about this country, curiosities that I don’t think you’ve heard of before!
The castles in Romania are a real source of inspiration both for its citizens and for artists from all over the world. Who hasn’t heard of Bram Stoker’s Dracula? Or the Carpathian Castle of the great Jules Verne? Well, this wonderful country that you will want to visit is a real inspiration. We make your work easier and we list a few castles that you should not miss. Bran Castle, the residence of Vlad Țepeș, which we talked about in a series of articles, is not to be missed! In extension to the idyllic landscapes, the mystery around the place will create a unique atmosphere.
The Colt Fortress is said to have been the source of inspiration for Jules Verne. Indeed, the idyllic landscapes, the fortress surrounded by forests make you think and, why not, inspire you in literary creations. And for the most romantic, Peleș Castle is a sublime place to visit. It may seem familiar to you because the well-known Christmas movies on the Netflix platform – A Christmas Prince and A Royal Wedding were shot here.
Watch them if you want to form an idea about the beauty of the place, especially in the cold winter season, and get ready for the trip! And the Banffy Castle in Bonțida is known for the Electric Castle festival. Since 2013, a lot of party people, both from Romania and from Europe, Asia, even America come here to have fun and to enjoy music, dance and… rain!
Do you want to travel back in time? Sarmisegetuza Regia is the ideal place! These monuments date back to Dacian times and used to be the capital and the most important religious and military unit. Perched on a rock, about 1000 meters high, the location was ideal in those days, the Dacians strategically thinking of this location to defend themselves from outside attacks.
In case you didn’t know, the Dacian people were one that attracted the envy of many others, being rich, brave, and beautiful. It is also said that this place has a sacred air, they also place the Circular Calendar here. Today you can visit this magical place, to step on the lands that once witnessed many battles and wars.
If we are to praise the Romanians, we do it for their inventions! For example, Henri Coandă was the one who invented the jet engine, but also the first propellers without propellers, but with reactive propulsion. He was one of the innovators that changed the aviation field. Another area in which Romanians left their mark was medicine.
Researcher Ion Cantacuzino discovered among the first cures for cholera and tuberculosis, Romania being the second country to introduce the vaccine for the second disease. And an instrument used by all, especially in the past, the pen, was invented by Petrache Poenaru. Why was it so important? Well, this object was able to write without interruption for a long time, being loaded with ink. It made everyone’s work easier!
Romanians have a special way of looking at the events of life, and death is no exception. You will find out if you choose to visit the Merry Cemetery. This place is a cemetery but at the same time a unique tourist attraction. Each stone is unique and cheerfully colored and (surprise!) contains a personalized message about… its owner. These messages can refer to people’s jobs, to important events in their lives, funny moments. You will discover once again that Romanians have unique thinking, making even an event that causes pain to be less tragic.
Another place not to be missed is near the Danube where the tallest rock sculpture in all of Europe is located! It is also about the Dacians and, more precisely, about their brave leader, Decebalus. It is 55 meters high and 25 wide, being made over 10 years and through the work of over 10 sculptors. So, if you want to visit this monument and enjoy the peace, but also the idyllic landscapes, choose to visit this place too!
